-have recent experience solo sailing a sloop under 20 feet

-be able to tread water and swim;
-wear appropriate clothing;
-follow Dockmaster instructions;

The $300 registration fee for the Basic Sail Equivalency Course is non-refundable. Changes are possible:
- On-the-water lesson days may be changed (Saturdays, Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays) during the Session registered for;
- The Session registered for (Spring, Summer, Fall) may be changed within the same calendar year;

The Equivalency Course is a 2-day course that provides experienced sailors the opportunity to become familiar with our Meadow Lake boats and procedures, and quickly demonstrate proficiency in sailing knowledge and skills. Upon passing all test requirements of the Equivalency Course, an application with $55 fee is submitted to become a member of TASCA.

Participants must be age 16 or older, have recent experience solo sailing a sloop under 20 feet, and demonstrate swimming proficiency at a YMCA Pool (September 17, 2017).

Day 1

1) Orientation session: Introduction to TASCA and Dock Procedures; Receive TASCA Basic Sailing Course Booklet; Textbook, and Take Home Written Test;

2) On-the water session: Rigging & De-rigging; Lesson with a TASCA Instructor on one of our American 14 sloops; Review of knowledge & skills that will be tested on Day 2;

Topics: Knots, Rigging/De-rigging, Sailing (Boarding, Balance, Rigging, Getting Underway, Wind Direction, Steering with tiller, Heading up, Falling off, Points of Sail, Tacking/Coming About, Jibing, Sail Trim, Safety Position, Sailing by the Lee, Awareness of Traffic, Rules of the Road, Overboard Recovery, Safety/First Aid, Approach to Mooring, Approach to Dock).

Day 2 – Testing

1) Submit Take-Home Written Test;

2) Knots Tests;

3) Boat Rigging/De-Rigging Test;

4) On-the-Water Sailing Proficiency Test (See Topics from Day 1);

5) Submit Swimming Certification or Schedule Swim Test by Certified Lifeguard/YMCA;

Optional
At no additional cost, the Equivalency student may take 4 additional on-the-water lessons within the Session registered for before completing testing.
