February is when the Small Boat Maintenance Committee starts to prepare the Americans for the sailing season ahead. The boats were cleaned off superficially before they were put away, but now the hulls need to be thoroughly cleaned, polished and ultimately bottom painted. Some of the boats that were damaged during the last sailing season will need to have the fiberglass repaired. When this work has been completed and the boats are ready to go in the water, the last task is rigging the boats.
Some of you have been doing this work on the boats for years and we hope you will continue to help with this important job. For those of you who have never been involved in the maintenance of TASCA's Americans, please join us this coming Saturday and on any of the subsequent Saturdays that we will be working on the boats. Being part of the process is like taking a course in caring for a sailboat. It is also an opportunity to meet other TASCAns, who, like you, have developed a passion for the sport of sailing.
